This is our favourite park in Ontario! It's beautifully maintained with a choice of full-service pull-through sites in a shady area, or no services in the open beside the Lake Ontario shore, complete with totally relaxing surf sounds. There is an excellent snack bar as well as a chance to taste/buy Prince Edward County wines. The pool seemed a bit cold, but that didn't deter the youngsters. Many friendly park model and seasonal folks with no junk at their homes. Would have rated a 10 if they had cable TV, but 8 stations were pulled in through the amplified antenna. Can't comment on the Wi-Fi. This was a weekend getaway, but we'll be back for a week or more in September.

Just a touch-up for 2009: a super campground; scrupulously clean and well looked after. It would've earned a 10 if they had a pool. We'll be back.

This ridiculous price includes the KOA discount and taxes, for a park without Cable and with three pools so small that adults don't have room to swim. My back-in site was so off-level that I couldn't use the sewer hookup because my tanks are forward of the dump valve, therefore on my site, downhill from it. Probably a blessing, as the portion of the sewer pipe above ground was loose and removable; could have been a disaster. For those with dump valves amid ships, bring a long sewer hose, as all I saw was rear hookups. The power/water post had been backed into and not repaired, but worked well. Very leaky tap at one of the dump stations. Lots of equipment and activities for the kids. Altogether an average KOA which charges 20 dollars too much.

Just an update for 2009. I agree with all the previous positive comments and would add that there's a great rock garden (complete with a couple of Civil War artifacts) that's going to be beautiful when the plants bloom in a month or so. The sites do appear smaller than many parks, but I saw a few Class As and fifths with slides out and no crowding in the off season. Be aware that the sewer hookups are designed for rigs with rear-mounted dump valves, making it impractical for my Class B. Overall a really nice park in a peaceful and historic location.

Price was for a full hook-up - which you have to have if you want CATV - with the KOA discount. This park certainly deserves a better rating than the ‘6’ given previously; in my opinion an ‘8’ is more appropriate. We arrived in the pouring rain and the workers still were out in their slickers cleaning up the fire rings, and raking the sites used the night before. The check-in girl was friendly and helpful, and she assigned us a great private site. The WIFI, although rated ‘weak’ by my laptop, was fast and dependable from the motor home; the Laundromat was clean, efficient and reasonably priced; the restrooms were clean and modern; the cable TV offered 57 channels, all clear. The pool wasn’t yet open but seemed about normal KOA size. Altogether a very satisfying stay.

Nice park; great to camp among tall pines again after a month in the high desert/great plains. Staff was friendly and helpful on check-in, terraced site was level, the back bathhouse is modern and very clean with tiled floors/walls and showers. The CATV, if anything, is too good with so many channels you can spend all night surfing without settling down with any particular programmer. The only things precluding a higher rating was the lack of a pool and the slow WI-FI (Tengo) which took me back to the old dial-up days. Can't comment on the lack of maneuvering space as we drive a 20-ft B. Would certainly return if in the area again.

I agree with all previous positive comments and would add that the pool was large (by KOA standards) at 50 X 30 feet, sparkling clean water and heated to 81 degrees on May 2, even though the air temp was below freezing at night. Enjoyed their breakfasts and cowboy dinner. Incredibly friendly and helpful owners. We intended to stay one night but opted to return after seeing the gorgeous Painted Desert and Petrified Forest Natnl Park. Overall an excellent park.

This CG is primarily for long-term oil workers living in towables and class Cs. Appears that in better days it was a KOA, but it has now fallen into serious disrepair. The outer door to the ladies’ restroom was missing entirely; of the three shower stalls in the men’s room one was out of order, one had the water control all taped up with electrical tape and the remaining one had no locking hardware and looked like it had been painted after the hardware had been torn off. The bath houses were as clean as can be expected for very old facilities, but several clients’ towels had been left strewn about. No cable, no WI-FI and one of the public telephones had been ripped off the wall. The workers leave their dogs at the sites all day and the dogs don’t much like it. When we were there, four children were running amok with little to no supervision, squirting water pistols in about the bath houses (turning the sand into mud) and being nipped by an unchained dog. This to be expected: it’s not that the rules aren’t being enforced, but rather that there are no rules given out in the first place. It is open field camping with no trees; at least the hookups work well. The staff was friendly enough and apparently functional, but obviously, because of the nature of the clientele, they haven’t repaired, replaced or improved anything in quite some time. TL needs to visit again, as they don’t even have the number of sites correct. All that said, we were grateful for its existence: not one hotel room was available in any of Williston’s several hotels because of the huge number of oil workers booked in. Our advice is to avoid Williston, ND entirely and find another route to or from the Canadian border. A pity, because the town and shopping looks pretty reasonable.

An adequate park for those wanting to explore Lincoln land, mostly given over to seasonal pipeline workers. The guy next to us had his car hood up and his gas tank removed all day. The park needs an overall cleanup/raking. Bath house was old and dark, but clean and functional. CATV excellent.

A nice enough park with friendly and helpful staff (lots of local info and effortless bookings for all shows), but I cannot for the life of me imagine why Good Sam rates it as the best in America. The two sites we tried were far from level; however, the fridge still worked OK. Location is 10 minutes out of town (plenty of others are much closer) with no shuttle service. WIFI is exceptional, but CATV was snowy on half of the channels. Washrooms clean and modern with tile floors and nice shower surrounds. Altogether a good choice, but don't expect to share Good Sam's enthusiam.

Just a touch-up for 2008. (Rate was with a Good Sam discount.) I rate this park as a 10, something I’ve done only once a year since we started traveling in 2003. I agree with all of the previous positive remarks and none of the negative ones (the sites are plenty wide enough for 3 slides and an awning, and if you don’t like desert dust then don't visit a desert). However, I see in the reviews no mention of the new building at the north east corner of the park. It houses a large indoor pool – heated to 85 degrees – a soon-to-be installed spa and showers/restrooms that are so sparkling that I initially thought that the floors were wet from a recent cleaning. When you enter one of the six restrooms you get your own shower, vanity and toilet: just like home. Our original plan was to stay for two nights, but this place is so nice we twice extended for another night. The caring and helpful owners are changing the motif from grassland to rockscape with various cacti, which to me seems totally right. Not sure we’ll ever be back in this area, but if we are, we’ll sure as heck go out of our way to stay at Fort Amarillo.

Just a quick update for 2008: we agree with all previous comments. It's a solid average KOA, ideally situated for those who want to explore Amish territory or take an RV plant tour. Nice folks and lots of kiddie stuff.

Price was with Good Sam Discount. A very nice, clean park, staffed with cheerful, friendly and helpful people. The whole park is very generously graveled, preventing dust and mud, and although the hookups are side by side, they placed us between two empty sites. Many trees, which in the summer will provide needed shade. Much of the park is taken by long-term oil workers and engineers. The bathhouse, although dated, is immaculate. It is the oddest set-up I’ve ever seen: both the men’s and the women’s rooms have one toilet, separated from the shower/vanity area by a shower curtain. The twin showers, although closed at the front by shower curtains, had nothing to close them off from each other, resulting in one big shower with two heads. This causes you to lock the door while showering, which could cause lineups. The grounds are equally immaculate: no trash or cigarette butts here. The free CATV and WIFI were perfect. Altogether a super place to stay before or after visiting Wichita, which is 25 miles west and whose campgrounds are rudimentary to say the least.

I can’t find much wrong with this park, except possibly the pay showers, having paid a reasonable price for the site; however, this seems to be the norm for CT (cold showers are free; a quarter gets you 7 minutes of hot water on a very generous timer.) The park seems mostly given over to seasonals/permanents, but we had no trouble getting a site during a weekend in Sept. The seasonals/permanents evince many interesting innovations at their sites but for the most part don’t show any junk. A conservative estimate would put the number of quiet electric golf carts at a couple thousand. With 500 sites one might expect it to be crowded and busy, but on a weekend in mid-Sept it was quite peaceful and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. There were announcements made on loudspeakers throughout the day, but we weren’t bothered by them because the audio was so terrible that they were totally unintelligible. My advice would be to eschew the open field sites and take a wooded one: absolutely gorgeous. The local area boasts lots of antique dealers (sometimes they’re actually open) and great farmers’ markets and supermarkets. The quality and demeanor of the kids and teenagers at this park several times renewed my faith in the next generation. I’m not sure we’ll ever be back this way again, but if we are, we’ll sure as heck stay in this place. Excellent free WIFI and Cable, too.

Look in your dictionary under “Rip Off” and you’ll find this park. Very pretty, good Cable and nice, level sites. Want WiFi? Pay extra. Want a shower? Take your quarters. Hands up all those who truly enjoy being nickeled and dimed, having paid too much to start with. In the total absence of instructions, it took me a while to figure out how to make the pay shower work. My wife, who has two college degrees and 6 years’ camping experience, couldn’t get it to work at all. I think it’s their way of preserving the park for the seasonals – who predominate – and keeping out the great unwashed itinerants. With a shower like that, they’re doing their best to keep us unwashed. The desk lady, while certainly not rude, was in my opinion rather perfunctory. Nice park, long on location, short on philosophy.

We stayed here a few years ago and returned because it’s one of our favourites. It has everything: tall pines, immaculate bath houses, a location close to public transit to Boston (they give schedules and recommendations), a clean, heated pool - which they kept open beyond Labor Day because the weather warranted it - and a friendly and accommodating staff. Cable is excellent but WIFI is a bit spotty. I really can’t understand the reviewer who cited difficulty in negotiating the roads, as there were several Class As and towables here during our stay. I can only assume he/she ended up without sewer and cable connections because he/she didn’t reserve ahead. Its superior quality makes it so popular that you just cannot expect a perfect site on demand without previous planning.

This park really isn't bad for a community-run facility. My primary problem with it was that we had just arrived from a KOA near Boston which had Cable, WIFI a heated pool and newer and cleaner bath houses for $1 more. Bring your hose extension: you'll need it to hook up to the distant water tap. Bath houses were reasonably clean, albeit dated. The store had little but tee-shirts to offer. I suppose I'd return just for the proximity to Newport.

I feel I should write three narratives here, but that’s against the rules. Therefore, I’ll split my assessment into three: the good, the bad and the ugly, in reverse order. Our first three nights here were during a holiday weekend. The campground was absolutely full and the staff, unfortunately, was nowhere nearly up to the cleaning and policing challenge. The restrooms were horrible: toilet paper all over the muddy floor, urine (I guess) on the toilet seats, a broken beer bottle in one of the ladies’ toilets (which was too smelly for my wife to use) and candy wrappers in one of the urinals. The showers were filthy, didn’t have any trays for soap or shampoo and worked on a press button: their choice of temperature and duration. Outside was similarly disgusting: five lines of people waiting and lots of garbage, including a disposable diaper on the sidewalk. What is it about Provincial Parks that attracts the morons? Despite the “no dogs in the swimming areas” and the “no dogs without leashes” rules, some unleashed dogs did enjoy the beach without impediment. The next three nights were much better. Once the crowd was down to normal levels the staff could keep up with the restrooms/showers and we could enjoy the natural beauty of the park. Still, though, we endured dozens of people traipsing through our site and yelling at their friends on the other side of the fence while I barbequed dinner. What is it about Provincial Parks that attracts the morons? The park is on Lake Ontario’s North shore (downstream from Darlington’s nuclear power site, but I didn’t see any three-eyed fish) and is absolutely gorgeous. The sites are large, shady and scenic. Ours was on a cliff overlooking the pebbled beach. Lots of interpretive programmes available and the location, close to Oshawa/Whitby can’t be beaten for shopping. All in all, if you’re self-contained, it’s a great spot. If not, then I’d suggest you go there mid-week, off-season. We’ll be back, within those parameters.

This is primarily a tenting situation, albeit with a few representatives of every class of campers & towables. There was one class A, which appeared somewhat over-dressed considering the milieu. The hookups are side-by-side, with one post serving four sites, but given the number of tents, this caused no problems. Leveling, though, can be a bit of a challenge. The park is a maturely-treed field on a bay shore with no shortage of shade and for once, there aren’t any train tracks close by. The bath houses are dated (gloss-painted concrete blocks) but very clean with plenty of nooks & hooks to stuff your stuff while you shower. Oddly, the shower heads were are eight feet up – guess they grow ‘em tall in the County. The owners seem very adamant about no noise or loud radios, and the clients abide by the rules. The beach is rather minimal and affords a chance to cool off, but the whole point of this park is to serve as a base for exploring this beautiful part of Prince Edward County. I highly recommend it to all and will definitely return.

Rated a 1 because it wasn't open - more than a month after Trailer Life said it would be. Given the scarity of parks in the area, I suggest you phone ahead before building a plan around it.

Price was for 3-way hookup, no cable TV. This park has the second strangest hookup I’ve ever seen: water and sewer are normal but the electricity is shared between two sites, requiring a 50-ft cord. Unless your extension is rated at 30 amps, it will limit you to 20. Sites are lightly graveled mud and only some have cable TV: ask for it specifically if the 6 stations received on the antenna are insufficient. The WIFI cuts out maddeningly often. You can buy tickets at the park office for the catamaran to Mackinac Island, and the company that runs it will pick you up at the park. We took advantage of the service and had a fun day in this resort area which doesn’t allow vehicles other than bicycles and horse-drawn. Back at the park, restrooms and laundry were clean, fairly modern and very nicely heated: much appreciated in freezing temps! Friendly, helpful staff; overall a good (albeit over-priced by about $ 10) place to stay while exploring the Straits of Mackinac. I originally rated the park as a 7, but increased it to 8 when, on departure, I drove around it and found some absolutely beautiful sites further in, some with room for an RV plus a tent. Don’t know what the hookups are like or whether the WIFI works back there.

This park is the only CG on Lake Huron’s north shore that’s open before May 15. The owners were friendly and efficient, the washrooms bright, clean and modern. The sites were grass, level and most were without sewer. Trailer life describes them as “most side by side hookups,” but I didn’t see any. Two usable TV stations were pulled in by the amplified antenna. New for this year is WIFI (not advertised in the KOA or TL info) and it is by far the best I’ve had the pleasure of using: secured by 128-bit encryption and passwords, signal strength “very good” from the motorhome and no disconnects over a 1-hr period of use. They charge $ 1 a day for it and I’m happy to pay for the security. Seems to be a destination for several seasonals, but if you’re just passing through it’s hard to beat the price (gold card discount.)

I guess there are no previous remarks because this place is so unremarkable. Sites are gravel on mud (with leaky taps) in a field behind a CW bar. Don't pay for the sewer connection unless your pipe is at the extreme aft end of your rig: with my mid-mounted pipe I had to use the dump station, which is slanted the wrong way. The new restrooms are huge, modern and spotless. Overall an OK place for a night.

This is a perfect little place to overnight before touring the Queen Copper Mine at 9:00 the next morning. It has everything but a pool, but this is more than compensated by the absolute stunning mountain and open pit mine scenery. Great staff and campers. Arrive supplied, as we were told that there aren’t any grocery stores within 10 miles. The town itself is a historically significant artist colony with many wonderful, quirky boutiques. Very happy and interesting people here; we'll be back.

(Rate was with the gold card discount.) I think the owners deserve a lot of credit here. Yes, I guess it can get dusty in the desert – something they can’t control – and freeway noise? Couldn’t hear it over the AC. Consider the efforts they’ve put into it: fastidiously maintained desert sites with indigenous plants, immaculate showers (six huge unisex ones in a separate building in addition to the three in the men’s and women’s restrooms), 24 HD quality TV channels on the cable and above average WIFI throughout the entire park. When we were here they had a crew rebuilding the pool; a project that has to have run into the tens of thousands. I don’t know whether we’ll be in the neighbourhood again, but if we are, we’ll go significantly out of our way to stay here.

Just an update; I agree with the previous reviews. Bath houses are dated but clean and the laundy facilities, while mostly OK, had at least one washer that wouldn’t spin, requiring much dryer use. Don’t believe their claim to cable TV: on our site and the one adjacent it had been cut off at the ground. Never mind, there were lots of stations in the UHF spectrum on the amplified antenna. Club house was nice, with a really neat cafe area. Because the WIFI antenna had been installed beneath a metal roof (where do they find these technicians?) you have to be in either the laundry room or the cafe to use it. That said, though, in those locations the signal strength and speed were great.

Rate is with gold card discount, tax included. My rating of 9 says it all. Would have been a 10 if the pool had been open. It’s an hour away from both the Carlsbad Caverns and the Roswell UFO museum, which was perfect for our purposes. The immaculate tiled showers and restrooms were huge, as were the laundry facilities and the sites. Great cable, WIFI and scenery. We ordered the barbeque (chicken, beef brisket, pork ribs and sausage with (stuffed) twice-baked potatoes and it was delivered exactly when requested and very good, both taste and portion-wise. We would go significantly out of our way to stay here again if we ever return to the area.

Rate was with Gold Card discount. The only bit I would add is that the road to the park (Frontage Road) was under severe construction as of early March; down to one lane, perilously uneven (tilted) and with unthinkable drop offs on each side. We enjoyed the park and the staff, and the road was no problem for our Class B, but large Class As, particularly with toads, should call first to get a status report.

The excessively expensive rate shown is for a full hookup pull thru gravel site, with the 15 percent gold card discount and tax included. Cable TV is available only if you pay for a full hookup site: I recommend you don’t do it if you don’t need a sewer, as the cable didn’t work for us (judging by the forest of antennae deployed by others, it didn’t work for them, either; never mind, lots of stations are available on the amplified antenna.) The sewer connection was too small for my standard-sized donut but worked fine if treated like a dump station. A well-kept KOA with very narrow sites (mine was off-level, passenger side low, too narrow to use the awning.) The WIFI was a real pain, as slow as dial-up with low signal strength, and the requirement to log on with your site number and a password every time you connect to it, including the times it drops out. The Ethernet (wired) connection in the games room worked fine when the WIFI didn’t work at all. Bathhouses usually are clean and generally the park looks pretty. Swimming pool is one of the few truly heated pools we’ve encountered, open year-round, sparkling clear water and a real treat in March. A big draw is the bus stop right outside the gate for those who want to go into one of the most fun towns in America. New Braunfels / Greune, little German towns 35 miles NE on I-35 were, quite frankly, under-whelming (believe me, if my wife can’t shop, it ain’t worth the stop.) The camp store is very complete and staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable, with bus schedules and lots of local info. Overall an average KOA in an above average location, a park which would easily rate a 9 if they would fix the cable and WIFI and charge about a third less. Do consider Dixie, a park just east, with equivalent bus service, and according to a couple we met, about a hundred dollars a week less, although a lot less pretty and less well-maintained.

I agree that this park isn’t a resort destination, but it doesn’t pretend to be. At $22 (gold card discount, tax included) it’s a great deal for those just passing through. My site was a huge side-by-side with no neighbor. It was nicely leveled gravel and with great cable TV and pretty good WiFi. The only negative on the whole experience was the pay phone which didn’t work (we had no problems elsewhere in our three weeks in Texas, so it’s probably not us.) Staff was very friendly and helpful and the store was reasonably well-stocked. Bathhouse was spotless, but the ladies’ had very little hot water in any of the shower stalls.

Just an update for 2007. I strongly agree with all previous positive comments and view the negative ones as overly subjective and just a bit picky. Can’t comment on the reservation process as we arrived without one. The clubhouse is the best I’ve ever seen: lots of space, info brochures, computer with internet and printer, strong WIFI, big cable TV, comfortable new furniture, fridge, free coffee and great staff. The other big draw is the spotless rest rooms: each of the four of them is good-sized and just like home, with your own shower, toilet, sink etc. The only reason I can’t give it a 10 is that there are no picnic tables on the sites, causing one to kneel before the portable barbeque god to make dinner. Rate shown is for Passport America; Good Sam rate is $ 29 and regular rate is $ 33 (taxes included.) Highly recommended to all who visit this fun area.

Just an update for 2007. As all previous reviews state, it’s walking distance to all Elvis attractions. Excellent WIFI; more than enough TV stations on the amplified antenna; very helpful and knowledgeable staff; washrooms a bit dated but spotless. Bus stop right across the road for those who want to see the Beale St attractions, or you can catch the free shuttle from Heartbreak Hotel to Sun Studios. Rock & Soul Museum highly recommended, as is the Irish pub at Peabody Place, but overall the city looks just a bit depressed. Price quoted includes the Good Sam discount. A great place to stop for Elvis & downtown.

Don’t be fooled: there are 2 KOAs in the area, and this is NOT the one with TV, WIFI and a pool. If you want those amenities, go for Bar Harbour Woodlands KOA. This is a nice enough, standard KOA which would have rated a 7 had it not been for the ridiculous $64 nightly charge for a 3-way hookup requiring a 20 foot sewer hose. I know it’s Bar Harbor and the area was founded by the wealthy, but most other parks here offer much more sensible rates. Washrooms were very clean and quite nicely configured, the staff was very friendly, and as with all other parks here, it’s served by an efficient, free shuttle bus service to downtown. Altogether a good CG which should charge about half what it does.

An undiscovered gem! This is a very attractive park, with most sites backing along a swiftly moving river: very relaxing sound. The owners couldn’t be friendlier (southern hospitality way up north) and on the Saturday night of our visit presented a free meal, bonfire and a C & W band. Restrooms and showers were modern and imaculate and the cable TV was great. This is the first campground WIFI I’ve ever seen produce a “Very Good” signal strength report inside the motorhome. This CG will cause me to route through the White Mtns rather than the Adirondacks next time I head East. Would’ve rated it a 10 (something I’ve done maybe once every 2 years) if the sites were a bit roomier and if there were a pool.

We return to this park every year because it’s so great. Nicely laid out in a field with shade trees, spotless and beautifully configured restrooms and showers, well-stocked store, super and clean pool, excellent cable TV, fast ethernet connection, friendly staff; sorry, I’ve run out of superlatives. Would rate it a 10 if it had WI-FI and if the sewer connections were lower, making them useable by rigs with lower sewer outlets.

Email reservations not received (no failed mail message on my end – obviously they don’t check their email) phone reservation for 2 nights was misconstrued as only 1 night. A very loud and rude greeter kept interrupting my registration process. Trailer life says TV svc – not in our (water/30-amp) site, and judging by the number of antennas and dishes deployed, not in any other, either. WIFI almost but didn’t quite work in our site; took the laptop to the parking lot and found a network called Fred-e-net which requires you to open a free account by giving your name and email address “for legal reasons” – Right - ought to call it Fraud-e-net! Speed of a dial-up connection. Facilities available for extra charge: golf driving range, mini golf, water slide, canoes, kayaks, pontoon boat rides, banana boat rides, trail bikes, dairy bar, canteen. Free activities: playground, splash pool, bankshot basketball. Overall, got the impression they’ve bitten off a little more than they can chew, given the number and quality of staff available. Very tight sites with insufficient room to deploy our awning, but alt least they’re not side-by-side hookups. Hope you like dogs. All that said, the park is located on the shore of the beautiful St John River and offers absolutely terrific views of the river and the sunset. Washrooms, although few and dated were very clean. Historic Fredericton and Kings Landing were very interesting to visit.

This is a very busy CG with all sites in an open field overlooking the beautiful bras d’Or lakes on Cape Breton Island. Because it’s the closest one to the ferry to Newfoundland (3 miles), there’s always someone leaving or arriving at all hours. When we arrived without a reservation, there were two groups (Adventurers and Good Sam) almost filling up the park. The staff could not have been more friendly and cheerful as they found us a site and gave us the option of moving to a better one in the morning after one of the groups moved on. Arrive supplied, as there’s no store within walking distance. Although there isn’t a pool, there are two under-utilized two-person whirlpools that can be used to cool down. Restrooms, showers and laundry were all spotless at all times; however, with only two showers per gender, there sometimes are lineups . Wi-Fi worked fine in the ‘information room,’ where you can also find two public telephones and lots of traded magazines and brochures, and although there’s no cable TV, we received 5 channels on our amplified antenna, the best being CBC, CTV and Global. Overall an excellent stop in route to or from the Newfoundland ferry, with lots to see, do and shop in the local area. We stopped in route to - and will stop again on the return from – the ferry. Highly recommended to all.

This park is a solid average KOA which maintains the KOA standard of cleanliness, facilities and friendliness. It’s located a quarter mile from the highway, so there’s no road noise. Close to the well developed Cavendish Beach area, it’s convenient to shopping, water sports and lobster dinners.

This is a very well-run and extremely attractive park. Sites are large, level and well-graveled and the walking trail is the most beautiful and entertaining (lots of funny signs throughout) I have ever seen. The washrooms and showers are immaculate; however, with only three per gender, lineups might become an issue. Some advice: ignore the arrival directions posted on their website: the Irving station they mention no longer exists and the exits are no longer numbered. You’re best off just to follow the signs on the TCH and be careful to take the northern-most road to Doyles: if you take the southern-most of the two, there’s a hair-pin turn that a big rig could never negotiate, particularly with a toad. The staff are the friendliest and most helpful ever. I would have given the park a ‘10’ but there’s no pool, Wi-Fi or cable (CBC received on the amplified antenna.) Nevertheless, it’s a super place to go and we’ll be back on the return trip.

A beautiful park (Good Sam member) in the middle of the spectacular Gros Morne National Park. Our private site had evergreens and bushes on three sides and was well-groomed and graveled. Washrooms, laundry, and showers spotless. No cable TV - the norm for Newfoundland - but received CBC on the amplified antenna, and after an initial bout of crankiness, the Wi-Fi worked fine from the site.) Staff was friendly (ever meet an unfriendly Newfie?) and although we didn’t try it, they have a restaurant on site that gives campers a 10 percent discount - looked good to us. I would have given it an 8, but I reserve that rating for similarly nice CGs that invest in a pool and Cable/Sat TV. Highly recommended to all passing through the area.

Located on the Island of Havre aux Maisons, a five-hour ferry ride north of Prince Edward Island in the Gulf of St Lawrence, this park is an undiscovered gem. All sites are beautifully maintained in an open field just one sand dune and a two-minute walk from an unspoiled and unpopulated white sand beach that runs for miles in each direction. The St Lawrence water is clear and clean, and you can watch the lobster boats laboring a mile off shore. There are several quaint little fishing villages to visit, and more haute cuisine restaurants than we had time to try. The main town, Cap aux Meules, has everything you might want to shop for, and although French is the primary language, (the Islands belong to Quebec) the locals cheerfully switch to English to help you out. The campground restrooms, laundry and showers below the office are so spotless and cute, you’ll think you’re visiting your Aunt Effie. Plenty of bikes, scooters and things to do to justify the ferry trip (the ship is huge; no sea sickness there.) We received one English language TV channel on the amplified antenna

This is a small (17 RV, 10 Tent), basic and Spartan CG, but that’s alright because it doesn’t pretend to be anything else. It's main calling card is that it’s the closest park to the 1,000-year-old Viking Vinland landing site (3 km); as an unadvertised extra, it’s 2 kms from where Jacques Cartier landed at Quirpon in 1534. It has a couple of basic but clean washrooms (a line-up for the showers), an internet café and a restaurant that smelled divine to this cod enthusiast.

This is one of those rare natural finds: the town Lions club leveled, graveled and set up 26 back-in sites against a hill overlooking the ocean. Super site for bonfires, beach combing and sunsets. Basic yet clean washroom facilities (two toilets and two showers, resulting in a line-up.) TV was weak – bring a video. A mid-sized grocery store’s right across the highway. Considering the extremely sparse number of CGs between Deer Lake and St Anthony, we felt fortunate to find something this scenic.

A gorgeous park in the North-east part of town, but try to reserve early. We arrived on a Tue without a reservation and had to take an unserviced site. The site was so private and beautiful that we didn’t even miss the electricity. They were able to free up a serviced site the next night and it was equally super. Very nice staff, clean restrooms and well-maintained throughout; however, the check-in organization could be better run: on our first night we finally settled in on our third assigned site because the other two had been taken by people who had been assigned other sites but had moved without telling the staff. Arrive supplied, as the store sells candy, soda and beer only. With all that St John’s has to offer, I suggest a three-night stay minimum.

Open field camping at its best, albeit a bit quirky. Semi-serviced 15-Amp site means one water outlet for two sites (no problem if you have a splitter or full fresh water tank) and an honest 15-Amp breaker that will trip if you use the AC. Friendly 24-hr staff cheerfully reset it without recriminations. Modern, clean restrooms, but only one shower per gender; not a problem if you shower on arrival. Close to a falls produced by a hydro dam and within walking distance of stores. Would definitely revisit if in need of an enroute stop in the area.

Absolutely beautiful wooded sites for the seasonals; functional open-field spots for transients near Stephenville, NL. A sign on entry pointed to a pool and canteen: the pool appeared to have a big water slide; unfortunately, both the pool and the canteen were closed and didn’t look set to open any time soon. Two showers and toilets per gender, but there weren’t any lines when we were there. Recommended if you’re visiting Stephenville or the Port Au Port Peninsula, but not worth the half-hour drive from the Trans Canada Hwy if you’re just looking for an enroute stop.

A nice park set in tall trees behind a motel; seems to cater mostly to long timers, if not seasonals. Two pools, a great playground, good laundry and men’s restrooms, but women’s needed painting and hardware replacement. There were supposed to be two telephones available, but they weren’t there. In the semi-serviced sites the electricity was 20 amps, but our AC didn’t trip it. Two TV stations received. Recommended for a long stay with children (they’ll make lots of friends) or as an enroute overnight.

We return to this park every year because it’s so great. Nicely laid out in a field with shade trees, spotless and beautifully configured restrooms and showers, well-stocked store, super and clean pool, excellent cable TV, fast ethernet connection, friendly staff; sorry, I’ve run out of superlatives. Would rate it a 10 if it had WI-FI and if the sewer connections were lower, making them useable by rigs with lower sewer outlets.

This is a very cliquey park dedicated almost entirely to seasonals who have turned it into a beautiful place with plants, rock gardens and terraces. Rigs include pop-ups, trailers and fifths: didn’t see any motorhomes. Saw only one or two itinerants. Washrooms were clean but very dated, and one of the cleaning men greeted us with a cheery “Bonne journee!” in the morning. Showers cost 50 cents for 5 minutes on a very generous timer. Organized activities for the seasonals. Our water and electric site was only 20 amps, so bring your adapter. All sites are very tight and have side-by-side hook-ups at the road end of the site, so bring your extension hose and cord, too. The strangest thing was that they didn’t want my personal info; they just registered me as “Anglais, anglais” even though I started the check in process in French. I’m not English, I’m Canadian, but I guess if you’re not fluent in French, you must be an Englishman. Gotta be even more annoying for our friends to the south.

Park newly acquired by a young couple making a great start, excellent WIFI, TV reception was excellent in French; one fair in English (American station) strange washroom config: 2 cabanas for each gender, each with a toilet/sink/shower, meaning for my 5 minute shower, nobody got to use the toilet in my cabana (50 per cent of the male facilities) Good sized sites with some by a beautiful river rapids.

Although just a half mile from the I-75, you can’t hear any noise from it. Site was level fore and aft, but quite a bit off side to side. Never mind, fridge worked fine. CATV was great, but internet access was dial-up: does anyone actually do this any more? Park was pretty much all pull throughs in mid-sized oak trees – very nicely kept. Bath house was modern and spotless.

I can’t add much to the foregoing comments except to say that we had no problems with the roads. They parked us in a great pull through close to the laundromat because they knew we were going to do laundry. CATV was great, but I for one am getting a bit frustrated with KOAs (and it always seems to be KOAs) who advertise pay as you go WIFI that doesn’t work. Signal strength was very good, but no data passed. Didn’t seem to occur to the staff that a call to the service provider might help – they just accept that it doesn’t work. Some of the seasonal sites were cluttered with the junk that these people seem to require, but most were not too bad, leading me to think that the management keeps an eye on them. Bath houses were typically KOA spotless. All in all a very nice enroute stop in Georgia.

An OK park in an outstanding natural, tall-tree setting (few mosquitoes in May.) WIFI was excellent, but the CATV reception at our site was only fair. The bath houses, while marginally clean enough, are very dated in terms of stalls, shower heads, lack of soap dishes and shower curtains. Excellent bike rental so you can tour this beautiful island at a leisurely pace. In view of the total lack of competition, this park is better than it has to be. However, with a bit of upgrading in the bath houses, it would be outstanding!

Very nice, quiet and friendly park which seemed in May to cater mostly to big rig seasonals. Only two toilets and two showers for each gender; however, as most people are in big rigs, it works out OK. A very easy 25-minute drive to the visitors’ centre if you follow the map/instructions provided by the staff. Our site seemed to be the only one without a concrete patio and a picnic table, forcing me to kneel before the barbeque god while cooking supper. I really appreciated the staff warning me of the snakes on one of the walking paths. The minor annoyances notwithstanding, it’s a great base from which to explore a terrific city. We will be back.

A terrific park located in a charming Bavarian-like village with lots to see and eat. The staff cheerfully refunded my WIFI fee when it didn’t work, even though it wasn’t their fault. There’s cheap and efficient transport from the park to downtown, but you’re right beside a Bavarian restaurant anyway, so you can walk off supper. No cable TV, but we received several useable stations on the antenna. Everything about our stay was positive except for a very annoying shower set up. You can’t control the water temperature, which maintains an average temp by cycling from cold to hot and back again. All you can do is push a valve for a 15-second shot of water, then repeat it again and again. I tried 4 stalls before finding a shower head that worked well. Offsetting this was their wonderful new indoor heated pool (about 4 times the size of a normal KOA pool) and foaming hot tub. Truly excellent.

I have never given a park a 10, but everything about this one is great! The previous reviews say it all and I can only add that the town of New Bern is a gem of quaint perfection to visit. This year it was a two-night stop in a 4,000-mile trip; next year it will be a destination all its own.

A very pretty park with a deep pond which allows the owners to offer scuba lessons. Really friendly staff who keep the grounds immaculate. The bath house, while spotless, could do with an update. Wonderful WIFI and even better CATV.

Just an update for May 2006. Agree with all positive comments previously posted and would add that the route in is quite easy for a class B. The WIFI is marginal because there�s a hill between the antenna and most sites, but that�s OK; we don�t have a dog and I don�t mind taking the laptop for a walk. Works fine in the parking lot. Staff was super helpful � gave us directions to the nearest (15 mins) train station for the 1-1/2 hr train trip into Philadelphia � and even had a train schedule! A real treat to sample the city without worrying about the traffic & parking. Very highly recommended to all and we�ll return next year.

I agree with all positive comments previously posted and would add that if anything, the bath houses are over-cleaned: on both mornings as we emerged from the showers we were met with cleaning ladies. Most parks don’t clean at 8:30 when the showers are being used. We were parked in the rear on grass sites with side by side hookups. The staff ensured there was an empty site on each side of us, so it was roomy enough, but it they ever fill up, you’ll sure get to know your neighbour!

Very nice park; clean, friendly and well-kept. The first night they put us into a really strange site on dirt with electric hookup on the right of the unit, sewer on the left and water/CATV directly behind. In order to use all 4 hookups we had to back right up to a cabin, which fortunately wasn’t occupied. When we asked to move the next morning, they gave us our pick of the entire park and we ended up in a beautiful back-in site with a patio on coarse red gravel framed by trimmed logs. Terrific bath house, laundry and store.

By way of an update for 2006, I agree with all comments posted last year. Seems to cater mostly to big rig seasonals, and although the sites are very crowded together, this seems to be the norm for this area. Refreshingly excellent cable tv and wifi.

An amazing, huge campground with large sites right on the Chesapeake. Not many campers in May, but I could tell by the number and size of the bath houses that they can certainly look after everyone. Unfortunately one of them had only cold water for the shower, but another was OK. Unlike a couple of the previous posts, I found the staff friendly, efficient and courteous. The general store is the best I�ve seen; they have everything you might need and even stock skim milk! Caf� wasn�t open in May, but the facility looks great. Will definitely return when in the area.

Just a brief update for May 2006. Agree with all positive comments previously given and have no negatives at all. Be warned: May 5 weekend is biker weekend there, and if you don't like snorting, unmuffled American iron from 7 am to 11 pm, don't go. Nice distance from the beach and all attractions in Norfolk, Hampton Roads and Newport News. Probably won't go again because of the jet noise, but that's not the owners' fault.

One of the three dowdiest campgrounds we�ve ever visited. Treed sites had knee-high weeds which obviously hadn�t been cut this year and uncleared fallen tree branches which tangled and tripped if you weren�t careful. One ladies toilet leaked when flushed, soaking my wife�s shoes; one men�s room stall had lumber that had rotted right through; there were no hooks in the showers for your clothing; one seasonal had claimed a shower as his own by leaving a container of his toiletries on the only shelf. Lots of hot water, though. Check in girl could not have been less interested in her job. A week and a half on the road and this is the worst and most expensive place yet. Yes, it�s right across the road from Jamestown Settlement, but next time I�ll stay elsewhere.

This beautiful park has terraced sites on a ridge overlooking a large, deep, man-made lake. It caters mostly to seasonals, who are extremely friendly and have turned it into a cottage-like setting with very tastefully decorated trailers and fifths. The only negative is the bath house and laundry, which while basically clean, would benefit greatly from a total update.

Wow, what a full service campground! Very friendly staff who can arrange bus trips and discount tickets to many of Toronto’s attractions and tours. Just can't understand the previous reviews. No cable, but we received 11 very strong stations on our amplified antenna. Washrooms were spotless and fairly modern. This park is a must for anyone who wants to see Toronto but avoid the traffic - we watched as the staff patiently arranged several bus tours to activities for a German couple. I don't assess children's activities as we don't have any. Noise from the 401 detracts from a perfect score, but you can’t hear it with the AC on.

I agree with all of the above positive comments (and none of the negative ones) and would add that sleeping right next to a flowing stream is most restful. However, don�t go there to do email or internet: the WIFI connected for 2 minutes, then quit. Even by relocating to the laundry room as suggested, the signal strength was poor and the network wouldn�t pass any data. (I didn�t ask for a refund of my $5.00 internet fee because it did give me my email during the initial 2 minutes.) This is one of our favourite parks, but sitting in the laundromat and batting flies while their network malfunctions isn�t my idea of a good time.

As commented above, a very nice campground, but we found $39 to be a bit steep for a mid-week, end-Sept stay at a park without cable or WIFI. That said, it was a very quiet & relaxing spot with immaculate heated bath house and restrooms and lots of fun shopping nearby.

I agree with all previous comments, and my WIFI worked great the second afternoon. However, I haven't seen any comments about the restaurants at their casino: there are nine restaurants; five for fine dining and four more casual venues. We chose Ridizio, a Brazilian steakhouse which has 11 'Gauchos' circulating the room, each with a different cut of roasted meat on a skewer (beef, lamb, chicken, fish, sausage et al.) They keep stopping at your table to carve you some to go with your potatoes and vegetable, until you indicate that you've eaten your fill; then there's coffee and dessert. Great fun and super food; however, you have to realize that the casino doesn't have a liquor licence (some tax dispute between the Oneida Nation and New York State.) Therefore, if you'd like wine with your meal, you have to bring your own. They don't mind this, and will lend you glasses and a corkscrew if you need one. We'll be back for a longer stay next year.

No comments additional to the above; just a note on another of their restaurants: Season's Harvest. It's a buffet-type which features 7 different styles of cuisine to explore for $39. $50 for 2. Seating for 450; we took our own wine; found the food to be above average in selection and competent in preparation. Very nice staff and no reservations required even though it was a Fri show night. Be prepared to wait about 10 minutes on each end of the free shuttle bus.

Obviously once a KOA, this is a beautiful park set in tall pines. The sites are level and much wider than normal, roads are excellent (dirt) and the showers, bathrooms and laundry, albeit a little dated with gloss-painted concrete bricks, are absolutely immaculate. The grounds are beautifully kept and the heated indoor pool is larger than most. The store has everything you could need and there seems to be a candle/gift store upstairs. Mid-week in Sep we had the place all to ourselves, except the two or three seasonals who showed up after work. Although not advertised, some of the seasonals appear to have cable TV, so with a special request during off-season, it might be available to overnighters. We didn�t bother and received 5 stations on our amplified antenna. Highly recommended to all.

This is a beautiful park - set in tall pine trees - which appears to cater mostly to adults. The most striking aspect is the generous covering of white gravel on all interior roads and pull throughs: very clean and attractive. Bathrooms were a bit dated but spotless, and though they don't advertise it, they had excellent CATV hookups (more being added each year) and the best WIFI I have ever had the pleasure to use. Both were FREE. Very friendly staff. We will definitely return in future years.
